Examples of students taking action:

The Buddy Programme is a collaborative effort between Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs and another school wherein typically developing children are paired with children from the Centre to become buddies. Currently, this programme is being carried out with the cooperation of Apple International School. Children between the ages 12 and 14 are actively involved in interacting with our children. Through this programme, the buddies would attend events together, correspond through phone or e-mail, visit each other and serve as a friend to one another.

The 5th graders at the Universal American School, working on a unit titled ‘Lend a Hand’, invited 25 Dubai Autism Center students to spend a morning filled with art, music and fun.
On October 19th, 2009, our kids were graciously greeted by the students and teachers of UAS. Two buddies were assigned for each child to help out with the arts and crafts project. The day ended with everyone dancing with ribbons and having fun. Everyone was treated with a healthy snack. The children talked about their trip for days!
What could third graders do?
